Project Overview
Aramco Stadium, in Al Khobar’s Sports City in the Eastern Province, is one of Saudi Arabia’s landmark venues — its distinctive overlapping-sail design reflects the coastal heritage of the Eastern Province, and the stadium is built as a year-round destination for football, concerts, festivals and cultural events.
For this iconic structure, EJAD Gulf Technologies delivered the passive fire protection scope — 15,000 m² of structural steel protected with a LEED-compliant Jotun intumescent system, executed under one of the most stringent inspection regimes in the Kingdom.
The project ranks among the most advanced stadium fireproofing scopes ever delivered in the Kingdom.
Working within the Six Construct Saudi & ALBAWANI JV team under Dar Al-Handasah’s supervision, EJAD protected more than 1,000 unique steel sections fabricated by JingGong Steel International — with every stage of surface preparation and application verified through SSPC Level 3 quality control and TUV International third-party inspection.

EJAD executed the complete intumescent fireproofing scope for the stadium’s structural steel — surface preparation, application of Jotun SteelMaster 1200WF intumescent coating across 15,000 m², and a Jotun Hardtop Eco topcoat finish. The work was performed to LEED specification, with quality control at SSPC inspection Level 3 and third-party inspection by TUV International.
Project Challenges
The Aramco Stadium scope was among the most technically demanding EJAD has executed: more than 1,000 unique steel section profiles, each with its own section-factor calculation and film-thickness schedule; complex stadium geometry; and a triple-layer quality regime — LEED compliance, SSPC Level 3 inspection and independent TUV International verification — on every stage of surface preparation and application.
Paint System
The specified system combined Jotun SteelMaster 1200WF — a water-based intumescent coating selected for LEED-compliant projects — with Jotun Hardtop Eco, a low-VOC polyurethane topcoat. As a Jotun approved applicator, EJAD applied the full system under the manufacturer’s and project’s quality requirements, verified by SSPC Level 3 and TUV International inspection.
