Project Overview

The University of Dammam Multipurpose Hall (MPH) is a landmark venue on the university campus in Dammam, Eastern Province — a large-span steel structure built to host sports, ceremonies and major university events.

For this project, EJAD Gulf Technologies delivered the complete corrosion protection and passive fire protection system — 54,000 m² of structural steel taken from bare metal through abrasive blasting, priming, intumescent coating and final topcoat.

The MPH scope confirmed EJAD’s position as a leading fireproofing contractor in Dammam and the wider Eastern Province.

Delivered under main contractor Azmeel Contracting Company, with Saudi Consult as consultant, GEG Engineering and a Martifer Construções design, EJAD carried the full 54,000 m² scope in-house — from Sa 2½ abrasive blasting through Jotamastic primer, SteelMaster intumescent coating and Futura Classic topcoat.

Protected Area: 54,000 m²

EJAD executed the full protective system across 54,000 m² of structural steel: abrasive sandblasting to Sa 2½ (ISO 8501-1), Jotamastic epoxy primer, intumescent fire protection with Jotun SteelMaster 1200WF and SteelMaster 600WF, and a Jotun Futura Classic topcoat finish — a complete blast-to-topcoat scope delivered under one quality system.

Project Challenges

At 54,000 m², the MPH was one of the largest single-structure fireproofing scopes EJAD has delivered. The full-system scope — from blasting through primer, intumescent and topcoat — meant every square meter passed through four controlled application stages, each with its own inspection and film-thickness verification, all coordinated with Azmeel’s construction program on the large-span hall steel.

Paint System

The specified Jotun system combined Jotamastic high-solids epoxy primer, SteelMaster 1200WF and SteelMaster 600WF water-based intumescent coatings for cellulosic fire protection, and Futura Classic polyurethane topcoat. As a Jotun approved applicator, EJAD applied the full system under the manufacturer’s quality requirements.

Why EJAD

EJAD Gulf Technologies was selected based on our capability to deliver complete blast-to-topcoat protective systems at scale — part of a track record of over 1.5 million m² of structural steel protected across Saudi Arabia in 11 years. Our status as a Jotun approved applicator and our ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 certified systems ensured consistent quality, safety and documentation across the entire scope.
